UNICEF estimates that 200 million hours a day are spent by women and girls around the world just collecting water.
Living without access to safe and reliable water is a reality shared by almost one billion people around the world, mainly in developing countries; we have the power to change this, together.
Access to clean water and sanitation is a basic human right, yet despite the technological advancements by most nations, millions of people wake up every day not knowing where their next drink of water will come from.
Drinking dirty water often leads to diseases such as typhoid and diarrhoea killing millions of people every year.In many parts of the world, women and children spend hours each day trekking across dangerous terrain in search of water. The water they are able to find is often dirty and undrinkable.
UNICEF estimates that 200 million hours a day are spent by women and girls around the world just collecting water. The long distances involved and time spent doing so every single day strains lower backs, shoulders and necks which results in significant long term issues. Other injuries are often caused from having to walk over uneven, steep and dangerous terrain but for such communities, there is no other way.
Access to a clean and a consistent supply of clean water is essential for life. Not only does it keep the human body alive and functioning, regular hygiene staves off diseases whilst regular access to water helps crops to grow. The use of wells and pumps ia a viable solution to many such areas.
The Raza Foundation works to provide people with access to clean water and sanitation. The type of communities we work with vary greatly so our approach reflects this. Assessing the need for water on an individual basis, we tailor our solutions to specific problems.
We take a holistic approach to our water projects. Many communities require support networks and The Raza Foundation delivers this via education programmes, building communal mosques and training people to use water safely.
The geography of the areas we serve is very different from each other so the water solution for these areas must be tailored also.
The Raza Foundation and its teams on the ground are able to assess the needs of local people and build water pumping solutions from a Small Handpump to Large Water Wells and Water Storage Facilities to serve 1-5 families or entire communities.
